This smelling salt, made in Germany, is not only used to increase concentration and performance in competitive sports such as boxing, MMA, weightlifting, powerlifting, but also in the medical field for psychosomatic states of excitement. The extreme olfactory stimulus serves to reduce high levels of tension, particularly as a high-tension “skill” in the context of dialectic behavioral therapy, and also has an anti-dissociative effect. Dissociations often involve loss of movement and even consciousness, and extreme cases of dissociation can resemble unconsciousness. This smelling ampoule with ammonia can also be used in the case of psychologically (partially) caused dizziness and fear of fainting as part of anxiety management strategies (in a way, to 'hold on in the situation').
